Autopilot

You’ve been doing the same thing for years: same people, same places, same conversations… same drinking patterns.

You find yourself waking up thinking, “Oops, I did it again!” far more often than you’d like. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly where the night took a turn because it all happened, you guessed it, on autopilot.

You have all the best intentions, but somewhere along the line, those go out the window.

You know it’s time for a change, but with so little conscious awareness about when you’re making decisions that don’t fully serve you, it’s hard to know where to start.

You genuinely can’t remember the last time having a drink felt like a decision instead of a reflex.

Your nights all play out on repeat, without you ever clocking the moment you agreed to it.

You can’t tell anymore whether you still enjoy a drink, or if it’s something you just do.

Checking in with yourself: “Do I actually want this, or is it just habit?”

Having the clarity to choose either way—no guilt, no shame, just intentional action.

That’s what breaking the Autopilot pattern feels like: putting yourself back in the driver’s seat.

The more you understand the habits sitting behind your drinking, the easier it becomes to notice when they’re taking over. These Mindful Drinking & Moderation in Midlife Podcast episodes will help you take that understanding further.

I’ve been drinking differently for over five years.

After a 24-year stint in hospitality, drinking daily and partying like every night was 1999, it took one hangover too many and a very upset little boy for me to start taking back the power of choice from alcohol.

Now, as a podcast host, writer and public speaker on moderation in midlife, I’m on a mission to help as many people as possible do the same—on their own terms.

Welcome to your life less intoxicated.
